Donna Spring on the Issues

Now more than ever, Oklahomans need legislators who know first-hand the value of education and workforce development, who understand the link between education and economic growth and job creation, who understand and respect our state’s top natural resources, who will stand up for the rights of gun owners and who want to bring accountability and responsibility back to the State Capitol.  Donna Spring will be that legislator for the people of District 14.

Education as the cornerstone of success…

As a teacher and education advocate, Donna Spring has been intimately involved in influencing curriculum choices, administration and technology use in classrooms throughout Oklahoma. Donna understands the vital role that public education plays in the long-term success of our children and the economic prosperity of Oklahoma. Her experience in the classroom as a teacher has made her acutely aware of the impact of inadequate educational and workforce preparation opportunities on our State’s economy.

Donna is an advocate for the classroom teacher and intimately understands the both the small and large-scale challenges our academic professionals face.  Early in her career, Donna taught math in an urban high school and in recent years returned to the classroom as an adjunct instructor teaching remedial mathematics at both Rose State College and OSU-OKC.  Donna was specifically hired to help integrate technology-assisted instructional materials into the core textbook-based curriculum.

Donna is currently serving on the board for the Enrichment Foundation in Ardmore.  Donna previously served on the Edmond School Board and was on the board of the Edmond Public School Foundation serving one term as the organization president.  During that time, she was instrumental in setting and meeting ambitious fundraising goals, helping to solidify and secure the foundation’s long-term sustainability.  She also helped to focus the foundation’s goals and ongoing organizational aims.

Donna is also presently active on a board that supports students who are completing a high school education without any meaningful parental support.  This advisory board position fosters “life-on-life” mentoring and personal assistance for students who based on circumstances are at high risk for becoming drop-out rate statistics.  With the support of committed community members, like Donna, the success rates of these students defies expectation.

Donna refuses rhetoric concerning education.  She has exemplified ground-level, personal commitment to the education of Oklahoma’s children.  We will not reach solutions by repeating slogans or adages of the past and expecting different results.  We must be willing to pursue true progress together.

Donna will fight to protect education from devastating budget cuts that may seem like easy answers during these difficult economic times.

Donna also believes that looking out for the interests of small, rural schools is fundamental to the strength of our many rural communities. She understands how important it is to leave these tough choices up to local communities and will fight state-mandated rural school consolidation.

Quality jobs and economic growth…

As a small business owner, Donna is acutely aware of the opportunities and challenges facing Oklahoma businesses and has experienced firsthand the struggles of both employers and hard working Oklahomans.

Donna’s dedication to education goes hand in hand with her commitment to creating good jobs and promoting a strong economy across Oklahoma. Donna Spring believes a well educated work force and an attractive business environment are the key ingredients for Oklahoma’s long-term economic prosperity.

Donna knows first hand that without a trained, educated workforce, companies are not going to see Oklahoma as a good place to do business.

Respecting and protecting Oklahoma’s natural resources…

Donna Spring understands and respects our state’s top natural resources – including oil, natural gas and water. Donna grew up in a farming community and her family has strong roots in cattle and wheat.  Her knowledge of the oil and gas industry will help our state to use these resources responsibly and protect them from abuse and outside interference. She will do this while paying attention to the health of our communities and with an eye toward creating jobs and attracting business.

Protecting the rights of gun owners…

Donna Spring is a committed defender of the 2nd Amendment Rights of Oklahomans and strongly supports the rights of law-abiding citizens to own firearms. Donna is a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the Oklahoma Rifle Association (ORA).

Bringing responsibility and accountability back to state government…

As a wife, mother, grandmother, and small business owner, Donna Spring had to manage budgets, meet payroll, balance her checkbook, and make tough decisions in the current economy. Donna believes that the leadership of the Oklahoma legislature must be held to the same standard that every small business and every family in Oklahoma is held to: they must be responsible and spend within their means; they must live within a budget; they must prioritize their spending on only the most vital items; and they must be held accountable when they don’t.
